You can manually enter the text string or date to be used during annotation, or you

can select from the Prefix drop-down list to insert pre-formatted date information into

the prefix string. The date format choices are shown in Table E-2.

Once set, the contents of the prefix are identical for every endorsing and annotation

occurrence for a batch. The counter, if enabled, will always be printed following the

prefix (base) string. Prefixes are, however, restricted to the number of characters listed

in Table E-3. The number of allowable characters varies by scanner. Exceeding the

maximum string length will result in the string being truncated to the maximum

length, along with an audible alert.
